Sweet treats such as Champagne Lychee Jelly with Rosewater Cream, Absinthe Choux and Chocolate Opera Cake sit alongside classic scones with jam and clotted cream. Ruinart champagne will complete the indulgent tea, with guests being offered edible pearls flavoured with rose or raspberry which perfectly complement the flavour of the champagne.

Pont St - Marie Antoinette Afternoon Tea Executive chef. Sophie Michell says, ‘I’ve always found Marie Antoinette an intriguing character; she was seen as a figure of decadence, beauty and frivolity. It’s debatable as to whether her famous quote, ‘Let them eat cake’ was actually coined by her, but it did get me thinking about what would be her perfect afternoon tea. Combining this with Ruinart Champagne, one of the oldest Champagne houses in France and their new flavour pearls, it was a seamless match.”

From the early 18th century, Dom Ruinart had the foresight to understand the great potential of champagne. His nephew, Nicholas Ruinart a champion entrepreneur realised the ambitions of his uncle, Dom Thierry Ruinart and in 1729, the house of Ruinart champagne was born. This Marie Antoinette Afternoon Tea is inspired by the decadence and opulence of the 18th century. Ruinart champagnes are fresh and elegant and they show wonderful character and length. They are full bodied and complex yet extremely smooth. The perfect afternoon tea pairing.
